Paradox Hotels & Resorts Unveils Flagship Australian Property: Paradox Sydney
A bold new chapter begins as Paradox takes the helm of one of Sydney’s most iconic heritage properties.
Sydney, Australia (July 1, 2025) – Global luxury hospitality brand Paradox Hotels & Resorts has officially launched its first Australian property with the stunning transformation of the iconic Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel into Paradox Sydney. Marking a bold new chapter for one of the city’s most cherished heritage buildings, the rebranding introduces a fresh, culturally immersive vision to Sydney’s luxury hotel scene.
A Legacy Reimagined
Owned by TA Global since 1997, the historic 27 O’Connell Street building—originally constructed in 1856 as the home of John Fairfax & Sons—has undergone multiple reinventions, serving as the Bank of New South Wales and later Westpac Bank before its debut as a five-star hotel in 2000. Now, as Paradox Sydney, the property continues its legacy of transformation, blending its storied past with contemporary luxury.
A Global Brand with Local Soul
Paradox Sydney joins an exclusive portfolio of hotels across Canada, Singapore, China, and Thailand, each celebrated for its culturally inspired design, seamless service, and authentic local experiences.
“Paradox is about creating places with soul—hotels that are deeply connected to the people, culture, and pulse of the city,” said Tiah Joo Kim, CEO of TA Global and the visionary behind the Paradox brand. A graduate of Sydney’s Macquarie University, Tiah brings a personal connection to the city, making Sydney a fitting milestone for Paradox’s global growth.“To debut in Australia at such a historic and meaningful heritage address is a major milestone for us. We look forward to bringing our signature blend of culture, creativity, and authentic hospitality to this vibrant city.”
A New Era of Luxury Hospitality
Peter Tudehope, General Manager of Paradox Sydney, highlighted the hotel’s forward-thinking approach: "Since 1856, this landmark building has been shaped by three great custodians: The Sydney Morning Herald, the Bank of New South Wales, and Radisson Blu. Each has contributed to its remarkable story. Today, as Paradox takes the helm, we are excited to write the next vibrant chapter that celebrates its heritage while forging a fresh and inspiring future.”
Unmatched Elegance & Modern Comforts
Following a $13.5 million refurbishment in 2015, the hotel boasts 364 luxurious rooms and suites, world-class meeting and event spaces, a wellness center, and award-winning dining venues—all encased within its grand heritage-listed sandstone façade. In the coming months, subtle enhancements will further align the property with the Paradox brand, ensuring a seamless transition for guests.
